Bachman Lake Together Grand Opening (PHOTOS)

The Bachman Lake Together Family Center, just north of Bachman Lake, has officially opened its doors to the public.

“Lumin Education was so pleased to be able to purchase this land a year ago to create a future home for Lumin’s Bachman Lake Community School,” said Terry Ford, Executive Director of Lumin Education.  “Given that the plans for our Lumin school are several years away, this gave us the perfect opportunity to invite Bachman Lake Together to put their facility on our campus.”

The property houses a 20,000 square foot facility, which has seven early childhood classrooms, offices, home-visiting space and a multi-purpose room for community events.

“When we started this work, there was no medical clinic, no free standing non-profit and very little programming happening in a neighborhood with one of the highest concentrations of children living in poverty,” said Regen Fearon, Chairman at Zero to Five Funders Collaborative.  “Now, others are joining us and this facility will be one of the beacons of hope for families with young children.”

Bachman Lake Together will bring resources to help parents support their children’s development together under one roof. Families will have access to coordinated early learning experiences and parent engagement programming, all from the same experienced providers they know and trust from their neighborhood. This is a method known as collective impact.

“Collective impact is when a variety of agencies, organizations and individuals all align around a common goal, use data to make decisions and adjustments and work together to reach that goal.  It’s easy to say but not so easy to do,” said Jerry Hawkins, Project Director at Zero to Five Funders Collaborative.  “My role is to support and guide the work of transforming this neighborhood into one where ALL children are ready for school in all ways – socially, emotionally, cognitively, in their physical health and their self confidence.”

Since 2009, Lumin Education, along with AVANCE Dallas, Catholic Charities and The Concilio have served more than 14,000 children and families in the Bachman Lake area with the support of the Zero to Five Funders Collaborative.

The event was attended by DISD Board Trustee Miguel Solis, philanthropic supporters, members of the Zero to Five Funders Collaborative and the Bachman Lake community.

Texas Instruments Volunteer Day (PHOTOS)

Lumin Education would like to give a special thank to United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and Texas Instruments for organizing a volunteer day.

The project included spreading mulch to all playground areas at our two East Dallas campuses. This is so important because the new mulch will provide much-needed cushioning for the children.
